Budget-Friendly Family Hotel in London: Our Experience at Travelodge London City

Traveling with a family of four is never cheap. In the end, it was a great deal on the Travelodge London City Hotel that convinced us to choose London for our trip. I have to admit, I was a bit concerned afterward. Was this hotel maybe too budget-friendly for a city like London?

A Clean Room and a Bathtub

Turns out, I had nothing to worry about. After a quick check-in, we went to see our room. Sure, the decor is a bit dated, and the floor is carpeted. But the room was clean, spacious by London standards, and best of all: it had a bathtub—which the kids absolutely loved! 🙂

At check-in, we were informed that the room wouldn’t be cleaned during our stay. I was totally fine with that, especially since we were only staying for three nights. If we needed extra towels or pillows, the front desk was happy to help.

Location, Location, Location

Yes, the location is really excellent. Within a five-minute walk, you reach several Tube and bus lines—and on the way, you pass a small supermarket to grab snacks and drinks for the day. Walk 15 minutes, and you’re already at the Tower of London.

Food at Travelodge London City

The breakfast was a pleasant surprise. I’d read some reviews about a basic breakfast, but that definitely wasn’t the case. There were several hot items (eggs, hash browns, beans…), yogurt (including vegan options!), pastries, cereal, fruit… In short: everything I expect from a solid breakfast. And the best part? Even our picky little eaters looked forward to it every morning.

Because of those same picky eaters, we also booked dinner at the hotel. This turned out to be much cheaper than going out to a London restaurant only to watch the kids barely touch their food 🙂 So, dinner: the food was tasty, and the menu offered plenty of choices for both kids and adults. Presentation-wise, don’t expect anything fancy—it looked like something you’d serve yourself at home. But honestly, I saw that as a plus when traveling with children.
