Hi there!
I’m Helena, the writer behind Waffles and Suitcases. I’m a mom from Belgium (hence the waffles :)) and on this blog, I share ideas for the best family outings, both in Belgium and beyond.
This whole project started when I realized just how much time I spend planning trips and activities for our kids. Searching for fun things to do, bookmarking family-friendly restaurants, putting together little itineraries… It took quite a bit of work — but the payoff was always worth it: we made the best memories together. Still, it felt like a waste to let all that preparation disappear once we got home.
So I thought: I can’t be the only parent spending hours planning. Why not make it easier for others and share our favorite spots? And just like that, this blog was born.

My favorite family adventures so far
We’ve done a lot of trips as a family, but here are a few that really stood out:
1. London with kids
This was our very first city trip as a family — and it was an instant favorite. We all loved every minute of it, and I honestly can’t recommend it enough. It was also so refreshing to try something different from our usual Roompot holidays 😉
2. KMSKA with kids
It was my first time visiting this beautiful museum in Antwerp, and it turned out to be such a fun experience with the kids. The special kids’ route made it easy for us to enjoy the art while they stayed engaged and curious.
3. Night train to Dresden
This one was just for the grown-ups — no kids this time! Taking a night train had been on my bucket list for a while, and we decided to try it out first, just the two of us. It was such a fun and unique way to travel. Honestly? I’d happily travel this way more often now.
