Museum Pass with Kids: Is It Really Worth It?

Honestly, the Belgian Museum Pass might be the best investment we made this year. We’ve had so much fun visiting museums with our daughters and discovering amazing new places. But let’s talk numbers — the euros, the cash, the dough: how much did we actually save?

Hi, I’m Helena — a cheerful thirty-something who loves exploring with her family.

🖼️ What Is the Museum Pass?

The Museum Pass is basically a one-year subscription that lets you visit museums all over Belgium. You pay once and can explore as many participating museums as you like — for an entire year!

👉 You can find the full list of participating museums here, and trust me, it’s a long one.

We bought two Museum Passes for us parents, which cost €130 in total.
Our daughters, ages 4 and 7, didn’t need one — most museums offer free admission for children anyway.

Here’s an overview of the museums we visited over the past six months and what the regular entrance fees would have been. (Note: these were the prices at the time of writing — they may have changed slightly since.)

And keep in mind… we still have another six months of museum fun ahead of us! 🎨

What We Visited (and What It Would Have Cost)

CityMuseumAdult ticketChild ticketTotal
AntwerpRed Star Line Museum€12Free€24 + €24 + €24 (we went three times!)
KMSKA€20Free€60 (visited several times)
Museum Plantin-Moretus€12Free€24

MAS€10Free€30 (multiple visits)
GhentDe Wereld van Kina€5.80Free€11.60
STAM€11Free€22
KortrijkTexture€8Free€8

Total value of tickets: €243.60

And that’s not even the whole story — the savings go beyond museum tickets.

When we visited the museums in Ghent, we took the train, and thanks to the Museum Pass, we received 50% off our train tickets (up to five trips per year under certain conditions).

So, in just six months, we’ve already more than earned back the cost of the pass — and we still have so many plans left for the rest of the year!

💡 Final Verdict: Was the Museum Pass Worth It for Our Family?

Absolutely! ✅
We saved money, explored incredible places, and spent quality time together as a family.

Would I recommend it to other parents with young kids? A thousand times yes.
